Frequently asked questions
How do I get there?
Fly to Ivalo airport (IVL), then drive 171 km north on E75/Route 92 through Karigasniemi. About 2.5 hours. Alternatively, drive from Rovaniemi (460 km, ~5 hours). Own car is essential — there is no public transport to Outakoski.
What is included?
Both apartments come fully equipped: full kitchen, bedding, towels, sauna access. Firewood for the soapstone fireplace and the smoke sauna is included. You bring your own food and personal gear.
Can I rent just one apartment?
Yes. One apartment sleeps 2–4 (bedroom + loft). You can also rent the whole property for up to 6–8 across both apartments.
Is this a hotel?
No. Outatupa is a private self-catering rental. You have the place to yourself. No reception desk, no room service, no one else's schedule. That is the point.
What about food and supplies?
Nearest grocery store is in Karigasniemi, 24 km. Stock up before arriving. The full kitchen lets you cook properly for the entire stay.
Do I need a car?
Yes. The property is 24 km from the nearest village. No taxi or public transport. A car also lets you explore: Nuorgam, Utsjoki, Kevo, and the Norwegian border.
What about fishing and hunting permits?
All permits through Eräluvat (eräluvat.fi). Check before your trip — popular periods sell out. Salmon fishing on the Teno has been restricted.
Is there internet?
Mobile signal works (DNA and Telia). No fixed Wi-Fi. Bring a mobile hotspot if you need reliable internet.
